Hi, I'm Heidi.
I started my career recruiting, helping small and medium businesses, tech startups, and Fortune 500 companies find the best candidate for a variety of roles.
Eventually I pivoted into tech (UX and product management, by daylight). By moonlight, I coached people through job hunts and career changes. I used my two dot-shaped characters, Motivational Green Bean (me) and Yellow Job Hunting Potato (the job seekers I worked with), to bring my stories to life.
Two-Dots Co. has since pivoted. I still coach, just less, and now spend most of my time building digital products, drawing on my UX and product background to optimize the search with tools and templates. The goods, apparel, and stickers help you laugh through the job hunt.
Where the dots came from
Two-Dots started with wanting the brand to feel honest, grounded, yet playful. It's about connecting the dots: threading the needle from one role to the next, connecting the experience you already have to where you're headed, and making human connections along the way, like you and me 👋
Dots don't have to be perfect circles, though. That gave me room to play with shapes that ended up looking like a bean and a lumpy potato, and they became the mascots I used to illustrate my point in my job hunting guides (see the Unemployee Manual). One for the voice I used during coaching sessions, one for the people I was coaching.
Motivational Green Bean
Motivational Green Bean was born to embody encouragement. She's the supportive work bestie who checks in on how you're doing and hands you a boost of positivity (with boba!), even when it's a bit honest but awkward (see her cringe in “Sorry for Your Loss Job”). Most days, Bean is thriving, and wants to help you get there too.
Yellow Job Hunting Potato
Yellow Job Hunting Potato has more faces, because burnout does too: burning out to a crispy fry, quiet quitting, doing exactly enough to get by, and struggling to find work. When the job hunt actually starts, it's the calculus of figuring out what to say in interviews, the networking nobody enjoys, and the applications that vanish into the void. There's a bit of Yellow Potato in all of us.
Purple Yam & Career Change Butterfly
Purple Yam and Career Change Butterfly aren't full-time team members yet, but they're not strangers either. Purple Yam is the bold one: purple, the complementary color to yellow, flips Yellow Potato on its head. They're taking the reins of their own situation instead of just getting through it. Career Change Butterfly, similarly, took the leap of faith and came out more beautiful than ever.
What we won't do
We're not anti-hustle. If the grind works for you, genuinely, go for it. But no job is perfect, and you're allowed to be tired. We won't pretend otherwise, and we won't be corporate-clean about how work actually feels. Consider this a safe space to laugh, catch your breath, and maybe pick up something that says the quiet part out loud.
